Nomad Planets: You’re Never Lost Until You Panic

Yes, I’m building a submarine in the living room.

I always enjoy working with Chicago-based Nomad Planets on their album artwork. For this project, I played with various approaches around the idea of being lost, and we agreed on a concept in which Victorian-era travelers obviously miss their target. Being a hands-on art director, I built the cover's 1/6 scale submarine using plastic flower pots, a porch lamp, various plumbing gaskets, and other bits. We took a small crew out to the dessert, and ended up with some great shots—my favorite aspect is the concerned but calm expression on the time travelers’ faces. Panic has not set in, so they are good for now.
